Roberts Knockouts Senate Libs
This One Was Over Before It Started
"Supreme Court nominee John Roberts on Wednesday assured senators he would be guided by the law, not personal beliefs, on right-to-die cases. He also told the lawmakers that Congress can counter the court's decisions. "
"At the same time, Roberts stopped short of providing his specific views on issues _ as he has steadfastly done throughout three days of confirmation hearings before the Senate Judiciary Committee. That chafed Democrats, who see his approval this month as almost a certainty."

Have you guys watched these hearings? Its almost like its unfair. Of course the dems asked Roberts to comment on specific cases, knowing full well he would and should not. But besides the partisan bickering, I find it very interesting to watch the process. I’ve never seen a confirmation hearing for the Supreme Court before, so experiencing it for the first time was kind of cool. Just by watching the first two hours of it, you could see the senate democrats came up short. Even if the question sounded like the answer would be a cheap one, Roberts seemed to have the upper hand the whole time. And he didn’t even have notes or anything. The dems had no chance, it was over before it started.

Desperate Libs Host Unsuccessful Anti-Morrison Blogring!
Do these clowns have anything better to do with themselves?

I can't watch this. It's childish.
Don't you have something better to do than mock us "Libs"?
I love the fact that you include me, NeoLibertarian, and myth1ca (of all people) in that group of "libs!"
Six of the nine members of the blogring are not liberal. Of the three remaining, two are merely left-of-center, and the third is an untrustworthy liar who should be kicked out of the group anyway.
mys0apbox and Neo... Morrison paints with a big ass wide brush when he discusses anything... it is easier for him to comprehend such things and place them in neat little subsections of his mind... take the title for his comments today "Roberts Knocks Out Senate Libs" There is a bit of a factual problem behind this title (worthy of a Drudge or even Huffington type title) and even the information within is sketchy at best... the way that Morrison saw it, the Dems came with the agenda to make sure that Roberts would not be confirmed which by all accounts would be incorrect... sure, there was a bit of fiery talk and some tough questioning going on as there has been with nearly every SCOTUS nominee... however to supose it was only the Democrats that had their questions turned away is false since Republicans on the committee also had their questions turned back... it is normal practice...
I would be able to estimate that a majority of Democrats do not mind Roberts being confirmed and this is highly unlikely to be an issue in 2006... recent polls show that an overwhelming majority of Americans feel that Roberts is a good choice and I happen to be one of those... it is rolling the dice with someone who does not have a paper trail... he could be any which way when it comes to making decisions... but his legal mind is good enough for the position...
So far Roberts isn't surpassing the expectations of those on the left but he might be coming up short to those on the right...
I know this is off topic but can someone (either right or left) explain to me why the GOP killed the proposal for a bi-partisan commission to find out what went wrong in the lead up and the aftermath of Katrina? I think everyone can agree that there were some major screw ups in the reaction and we need to discover, fix and or find ways so that it does not happen again... to me this was a no-brainer to find out what happened and I am not talking about partisan stuff... I am talking strictly in the event of another disaster (natural or man made)... I care less about who is to blame than I do trying to investigate and fix the problems...
"explain to me why the GOP killed the proposal for a bi-partisan commission to find out what went wrong in the lead up and the aftermath of Katrina?"
Wacky Kook Dopey Libs???
"I think everyone can agree that there were some major screw ups in the reaction and we need to discover, fix and or find ways so that it does not happen again..."
Actually they've already started. They're working on a way to stop hurricanes from happening.
Oh, btw..........I'm not kidding either.

Bimmer... I know you were not kidding but that was the best thing I think I have read all day... it made me chuckle...
Wow, the controlling of hurricanes....feasible?? I think we've grown too big for our britches
Normally I would be more than happy to make a witty sarcastic remark on the issue...so here it is.
A witty sarcastic remark.

I did absolutely nothing, and it was everything I thought it could be.
"desperate libs host unsuccusseful anti-morrison blogring"
You better watch out Morrison, that blogring is starting to get really big lol..... but something tells me thats what you want... why else would you link to it?
and Ive seen clips of the Roberts hearings and he was totally in control the whole time...
Hi "AltShift"
The dems said that they would not participate in a "bi-partisan" commission. They said it would be as "unfair" as the 9/11 commission.
The "pres", since he is the leader, said, no sweat - he'd have his own commission to improve anything that went wrong. His motive is larger than petty politics - he's committed to making sure everything works well so as to protect us from attacks and storms.
It's lonely at the top - but when you're a leader, you let the little puppy dogs nip at your heels as you go right ahead and do what has to be done. That's what character looks like!
God bless America.
hahahah
they even made a blogring to fight against u...
the blogring doesnt seem unsuccessful to me
and its not comprsed of just liberals. your problem is that you dont see libs as people too, you dont give us a face.
emma
boymarine... actually the Dems proposed a bi-partisan commission much like the 9/11 commission involving both parties and people from outside the elected to investigate and find ways to improve but it was turned down by a voice vote in the Senate by Republicans... some Republicans have also mentioned a bi-partisan commission but so far have not placed a plan out there... this is what some of the Dems have rejected since there is not a plan in place...
On the other end, the President announced he would have his own investigation which to me is suspect not because of his political affliation but because A) it makes no sense, B) more of a chance for people to say cover-up, C) more independent commissions would face lesser scrunity to claims of partisanship and D) he may have some blame in this entire thing thus you don't want an active participant investigating it since it can be skewed...
A commission should put an end to any rumors or thoughts of major purposeful major wrong doing along with fixing the problems... not fuel the fires... since he has admitted some blame for what happened, he needs to stop thinking he can investigate it and everyone will agree with it...
As a leader, he should wait until the commission gets done and impliment any changes that need to be done... you say this is character but to those who already do not trust him or are starting to waver trust for him it looks more like a cover-up... and just for the record, sometimes that sort of thinking of doing it all on your own is a sign of flawed character...
Hey Morrison, The blogring is called "Non-Partisian Blogring Against Morrison". It was started by Myth1ca, who Im sure is a conservative. Also, if you read the blog description, its not a bunch of desperate libs, its a bunch of fed-up people. Seriously, the points you make on this xanga are good, but they arent yours. You need to start making your own arguments instead of repeating whatever Rush says. I respect the man and listen to his radio show whenever I can, but his arguments are just that: his. Please grow a little.
Another thing: Liberals, however wrong they may be, do deserve our respect. Is it possible for you to show it?
Hi, Morrison, it's me, myth1ca. I'm the one who started the Nonpartisan Blogring Against Morrison. I know this may seem weird to you, but I am not a liberal. Don't have a heart attack, but in all honesty, I'm more conservative than you are, and I know what I'm talking about to boot. Maybe I should explain what a liberal is...You see, Mike, the word 'liberal' doesn't mean someone that doesn't kiss your ass every time you make a post, a liberal is a political ideology or a subscriber to that ideology. Just because someone disagrees with your neoconservative views--which you heard on Rush's show and posted about it but can't back up what you say--doesn't make them liberal, it makes them realistic. I realize you're still young, but your arrogance is really quite embarrassing to real conservatives like myself and italini.
And by the way, if our blogring is unsuccessful, that would in turn make yours unsuccessful because at the time of this comment they each have 13 members...
Actually... here would be a little test for Mr. Morrison... please tell everyone how you would define a liberal...
DUH! It's not his policy to respond in his own posts.
oh yeah... silly of me to forget such a thing... maybe if Rush discussed it today, he will let us know what a liberal is... or maybe he can write Rush a letter asking...
I thought Roberts did a fine job answering the questions. There may have been a few questions asked by those with ulterior motives that were meant to trip Roberts up, but in my opinion, I think he did rather well. He seems calm and self-assured and has a good grasp of the law.
Haha Alt, I was going to ask the exact same thing, perhaps Morrison's next post could be about his definition of liberalism...
Roberts should make a fine Justice.
Agreed, Wyoming.
Neo... quite agreeing with people, it is ruining your blog cred!
I trust that you are voting for Hillary Clinton in 2008? Or can you vote yet?
Morrison, now the anti-morrison ring is only as big of a failure as yours
Anti-Morrison: 13
Right-wing wack-jobs: 13
I eat conservatives for breakfast
free palestine!!
Actually, Myth1ca, I could go ahead and give you the definition of liberals/liberalism, according to Morrison: "Anyone who does not kiss my ass whenever I repeat what Rush Limbaugh says is a wacky lib."
This is simply beautiful....
Conservatives and Liberals getting together for a cause....
The cause being joining an anti-morrison blogring....
Simply beautiful
Oh and libertarians as well!!
I'm actually very impressed with Roberts. Through the whole "gotchya" ordeal, he had no notes and no one whispering in his ear...incredible, even Schumer liked him.
"Morrison" is a born leader. He makes his comments and lets all of his staff (xangans) analyze, debate and propose solutions.
What a man! Way to go, Morrison!
God bless America.
Boymarine, you have not seen transcripts of Morrison arguing anything... if you did, you would realize that he doesn't argue because he can't... it has nothing to do with Born Leader... I wouldn't follow him to the Tastee Freeze on a hot summer day since so far his "leading" is way off base...
