Have Faith In Your President
Now, We Need To Be Optimistic About This..
"Personally, as a conservative I am quite concerned about her. Was there no one better?"
Now I know you feel uneasy about this, anyone who supports this President and his policies would. But the truth is, it is still early, and we need to be optimistic about this. This kind of talk from the right is common. We have Rush Limbaugh now saying this nomination is a "sign of weakness", we have other people on the right who are pulling their hair out because of this nomination.
You need to relax and have faith in your President. Do you remember the concern with Bush announced Roberts to replace O’Conner?
The right went into a frenzy, Ann Coulter wrote a column denouncing the pick. This is unnecessary. We can tell whether or not the judicial decisions this President makes are good ones from the reaction of the democrats. Once the dems started searching for some dirt on Roberts we realized the importance of getting him on the court. The dems will do the same to Miers. They will search for anything and everything. Do you remember when they tried to divide the right by saying Roberts was pro-gay? And when that failed they tried to divide the right by saying he was anti-gay. Then they tried to say his adopted kids were too white! It was disgusting! They are going to do the same thing here. They are going to try to divide us. They will result in failure. We will not divide, we will unite. We will demand a fair hearing, we will demand this nominee be confirmed.
Harriet Miers is a conservative, Harriet Miers is a close friend of George W. Bush. I understand your concern. Once you see Harry Reid announce his support for a so called conservative nominee for the Supreme Court you start to wonder what the hell’s going on. But this President has fooled the democrats on more than one occasion. This President has fooled me, on more than one occasion. The President isn’t doing this because of his ratings, the President isn’t doing this because of Katrina, he’s doing it because for some reason, which we are sure to realize in the future, this woman belongs on the High Court. With these two openings, conservatism has a chance to finally gain some ground on the courts and attack the liberal philosophy. We will do just that.

I'm not exactly thrilled with this nomination, personally speaking. First, it's a woman. Ginsberg and O'Connor haven't exactly been thrilling examples of originalist justices. Second, it's a person who has never been married. This is not reassuring to the family values crowd. Third, she has no judicial experience. Ok, the third one can go either way.
This nomination is a bitter disappointment to all those who have been hoping that Bush would make serious steps towards counter-balancing the liberal trends of the federal judiciary. If he thought that this nomination wouldn't be met with alarm by his own followers, he understands neither his base nor the unique opportunity he was given. The Senate GOP should reject this nomination and demand the name of someone who the Dems want to filibuster. A stealth candidate is not good enough.
Ah, I see we are of like mind. Bush is pragmatic; he gets things done. Sure, many of us would like to see a fight, to see the libs end up with their noses bloodied, but that has never been the Bush M.o.
Miers is the dems worst nightmare! No matter what the dems do in the confirmation process - they lose. I can't wait to hear how Schumer questions her about her religious beliefs.
Slowly but surely, "W" and his very effective brain trust are bringing order back to the courts and to this country.
Next - the plan to hasten Ginsberg's retirement.
God bless America.
President Bush has also fooled the conservatives on more than one occasion. Why be optimistic, when we should just be realistic. Bush failed on his nomination.
Okay, let's take a different look at this.... first of all, in the part talking about Roberts, just so you know it was not the Democrats who released that Roberts worked pro bono for a gay group, that was "found" by the press... secondly you are taking the word of the LGBT to mean more than what it did... Next you assert that Democrats were saying his kids were too white (including a link to a blog that is just opinion)... you are using all of this hearsay to show that the Democrats tried to divide the Republicans on the issue, which you did not prove... and then you say the same tactics will be used against Miers... have you been reading Mehlman's email to the party members? It smells the same since it is full of innuendo with no substance...
Next you are claiming that Miers is a conservative... this is a guess on your part as well as mine... there is very little known about your stance on almost anything... what we do know isn't really telling either... I agree with you that I think she is someone who is close to Bush on ideas and thoughts but that is just a guess...
The thought that Bush is fooling Reid is misguided, especially if you heard the speech... he knows Miers and has worked with her... could it be that he actually thinks that she is suited to be on the bench? Could it be since the reports are that Reid is the one who mentioned it to Bush that Reid actually likes the choice?
I mentioned the Mehlman note before in which he came out less than two hours after Bush nominated Miers and the note stated that "Before Ms. Miers was even announced Many Democrat groups said they would oppose her." and added that the Democrats are "promising to throw every punch, make every accusation" to stop Miers from being confirmed, "They have no interest in giving Ms. Miers a fair hearing or vote." This is total BS... at the time this email went out to the GOP faithful (begging them to support Miers), not one of the "Democrat" groups had made a comment... Mehlman (when asked about it) could not provide one name... (factcheck.org)
Mikey, I know you are trying to get to your loyal rightie fan base by asking them to support the president on this matter but trying to portray it as "pull one over on the Democrats" just does not hold any weight...
"Now I know you feel uneasy about this, anyone who supports this President and his policies would. But the truth is, it is still early, and we need to be optimistic about this"
- Why?
- Why don't we know explicitly the history and ample decision making examples from someone who is to be stepping into one of the most powerful 9 positions in this country?
- Why?
As a conservative, I should be sitting back with confidence that my "conserative" president has made the right choice.
"wait and see"? Give me a break. I've waited and have seen too much from Bush43 to be remotely satiated and at ease when he winks into the camera and says "trust me".
I can't agree with Altshift more on this one... "this is a guess on your part as well as mine" Why should this make conservatives OR liberal relaxed?
in the above, "not one of the "Democrat" groups had made a comment..." should be noted that these groups would oppose her in the sense that was mentioned...
I would expect the pro-choice groups to make their voice heard on Miers though... one of the few records she has out there is trying to convince the National BAR to remove the neutrality from this issue... even though I do not see which sides she sits on, I have a feeling...
As it stands right now, the main charges that can be leveled against her are lack of experience on the bench (not a big issue) and possibly cronyism... more might come out later, but that is where it stands now...
Sends... it doesn't really relax me but I am awaiting for more information... and did you just agree with me? Holy Moly!! I am cutting this out and putting it on my cork board!
I remember when Bush41 tricked all the libs by nominating Souter.
«Okay, let's take a different look at this.... first of all, in the part talking about Roberts, just so you know it was not the Democrats who released that Roberts worked pro bono for a gay group, that was "found" by the press...» - Altshiftdelete
In theory you are correct, but in practice most of the press is the left's cheerleading section and attack goons.
Quite frankly, I am having a hard time being optimistic about this nomination. I voted for GW because I wanted him to work for me--to further a conservative type agenda. So far, I have gotten spending that would rival any liberal Democrat and hemorrhaging borders which have quickly become a gateway for Al Qaeda and the drug cartels. Now, GW has the opportunity to nominate not one, but two people to the Supreme Court, and he gives us Roberts, who appears moderately conservative, and Miers--an unknown entity. I am sorry, but being a woman and a friend of the President is not an automatic qualifier for the Supreme Court. She may be a nice person and have good judicial intuition, but how do we know? There is no proven track record to go by. Should we just blindly trust GW's instincts? Why couldn't he nominate a known conservative? By all accounts, it is not like the pickin's were slim--he had plenty to choose from. Honestly, I must admit that I am somewhat disappointed with all of this.
intermodal... if you do not think that someone on the right did not give up that info, then you missed the dissemination of information about the Roberts pick...
Countrygal... the spending you speak of doesn't rival any liberal Democrat, it overpowers it... this is one thing that I am truly surprised that most of the "real" conservatives don't jump upon... Bush has never been known as a fiscal conservative and yet that was left behind when the full support and worship of Bush happened... he has not vetoed one bill and most of these bills have more pork in it than a slab of Carson's BBQ ribs... I am not admonishing conservatives for following Bush but it has always made me shake my head when these same conservatives would deride liberals on economics...
Mike,I hope you're right......but I still remember when his dad broke his "Read My Lips-No New Taxes" pledge.....and this,in the immortal words of Yogi Berra, seems like "Deja Vu All Over Again". If Schumer, and Reid, weren't so gleeful,I'd feel a lot better about this nomination!

P.S.I was rooting for your Phillies........WHAT HAPPENED?
Altshiftdelete--Most real conservatives are very critical of the outrageous spending. It is the "party before policy" RNC bootlickers who cannot seem to look beyond their partisan tunnel vision.
I trust my President and I back every decision he makes.
- Jenny
County- I don't doubt that but it seems I run in to more of the partisan folks than real conservatives... as evidenced by the above comment...
"I trust my President and I back every decision he makes."
- Lord help this child.
"I trust my President and I back every decision he makes. - Jenny"
Wait, isn't he all of our president? Or at least he claims...
Watch it when attacking Xox_SugarNSpice_xoX, guys. Morrison gets active when he's defending his favorite fellator.
I'm impressed. Keep up the good work, Mickey....youknowtherest. <3
blah blah blah. Wait a tick...did you actually make a statement quasicritical towards Rushy? My God in Heaven...
The President has failed his base, plain and simple. And although there have been I think 41 total Supreme Court Justices with no prior judicial experience (Warren, Rehnquist, just to name a couple), I don't think there has been a time when a President has nominated his own personal lawyer...The fact is, the president should be picking the most qualified originalist in the country to be on this court, and instead he picked someone based on the fact she is a woman and she is his friend. There are 10,000 lawyers out there as if not more qualified than her with the same if not more experience than her. A horrible, horrible pick. Wait? WAIT? This shouldn't be a guessing game. Those who are party loyalists can try their very hardest to come up with reasons to defend the pick, but true conservatives should realize that they've been gyped.
