  • Bush Picks Scalito, em.. Alito!!

Morrison Stuck At Home, On Halloween

With the Jag In The Shop, It Appears I Wont Be Going Anywhere For Quite Awhile

PHILADELPHIA Oct 31, 2005 — Commuters who rely on the city's buses, subways and trolleys were forced to walk, hitch rides and take taxis to work Monday after thousands of city transit workers went on strike.

In a city where one in three households lacks a car, about 920,000 trips are taken on a typical weekday along the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority lines shut down by the strike.

  • Looks like I might be the first commenter here today, and that's good....maybe I can get your comments section off on a POSITIVE note! I like Alito a lot, from what I know of him.....

  • Looks like a fight is going to ensue. Enjoy, since that's what you seemed to want. Why is a polarized country a good thing?

"Jag"? Is that what you call your big wheel?

  • Bush has made a good choice!

  • First off, the fight had to happen... as much as I dislike this sort of politics it had to be done from the President's side of it... he has to cling on to his core base (which Miers did not exactly help him on) otherwise his numbers would be worse...

Secondly, I have seen plenty of folks like lead_mare (no picking on you but you are here) making similar claims that "Bush has made a good choice" or "the right choice" so let me ask this... how so? Do you know where Alito stands on things? Do you know how he comes to his decision regarding law? I am not talking about what the talking heads and various pundits/bloggers have to say but have you done any investigation on his thoughts at all? Let's face it, either side can come up with points for or against using the same case... but it is the way he came up to the decision that is more important than what he said in his opinion...

I am quite sure that our friend Morrison is working hard on a post that will examine the works of Alito that will not only be intellectually fullfilling but also well supported...

If I may be permitted to butt in and venture MY response to your question,it is very simple. I can't speak for the OTHER party, but "How do I know Bush has made a good choice?" Simple. The Liberals,by in large, are upset!

  • angelsea... then you are following the wrong approach... this isn't a football game or even a playground, this is the highest court in the land... it deserves the best constitutional legal minds (or at least those willing to take the pay cut) that best represent the nation as a whole... this would be like a liberal supporting Miers because conservatives, by in large, were upset... it doesn't contain logic... but I guess in best interest of the polarization of our political culture combined the high partisan emotions, it seems to fall in line...

so far each side has spewed out talking points for or against him based simply on that feeling... do you know where he stands on issues or how he comes to decisions? Or do you not think that this important?

  • HAPPY HALLOWEEN <3

  • "If I may be permitted to butt in and venture MY response to your question,it is very simple. I can't speak for the OTHER party, but "How do I know Bush has made a good choice?" Simple. The Liberals,by in large, are upset!"

Angelsea...by your way of reasoning...............even the worst justice in the world (and he may himself in fact be a liberal judge or activist judge as they are referred to) could be a good choice simply because the liberals are upset. The Supreme Court is the highest court here in our nation and much respect comes from these 9 robed men and women, and yet you still consider a candidate a good choice simply because the liberals are upset? What kind of basis is that to form an opinion on whether a man is qualified or not to preside in the SCOTUS.

Angelsea you should know better, I mean c mon you're way older than me and yet just from reading your comments I feel like Im reading the comments of a child who just follows what is told to he or she on the TV. Your talks of moonbattiness are frightening, to say the least. This may seem odd to say but........grow up.

Conservatism is not the panacea to all the going ons in the world buddy. I hate to burst your bubble, but not everything YOU think is all high and mighty and right.

Sorry to break it to ya.

  • Who are you? And how is the damage that Septa is doing to our economy funny? Elaborate for me.

Yes,absolutely I know where he stands on the issues and how he comes to decisions.....so do the Libs! I was merely TRYING (unsuccessfully, unfortunately) to make a joking point that whoever the libs are AGAINST I am FOR. Those who are FOR the nomination will (hopefully) see the humor in that.....those AGAINST the nomination are not in the mood for jokes,I guess. I didn't realize you would be so ticked off by that.....(Lol),lighten up.......enjoy life!!!!!! Well,at least YOUR comment had enough merit to warrant a response.......the OTHER one isn't even worth acknowledging........! Have a great day.

  • Angelsea... you have me wrong... I did see the humor in it but there are people who believe the way you said... I am not ticked off in any way and I feel that you and have come to an understanding in which we do respect the other's opinion even if we don't agree...

  • I am sorry, then, for misunderstanding you.....and thank you for clarifying. You are right, there ARE people who believe that way.....but in my very first comment under this post, right at the top,I wrote that "I like Alito a lot from what I know of him",indicating SOME knowledge of where he stands and how he comes to decisions. I,too,am from New Jersey, like Mr. Alito is.......while I can't honestly say he was a household name to me,he is no total stanger, either.

I most certainly DO respect your opinion, even if we don't agree! I try to not resort to namecalling and demeaning comments like Snake_CharmerX apparently does, and I appreciate the fact that you don't,as well. I have often seen your comments on here and agreed with you,and I have disagreed with you at times, also. I certainly agree that ANYONE who likes one nominee just because the opposing party IS following the wrong approach!

  • ".........just because the opposing party *doesn't like him or her* IS following the wrong approach!"

  • Pointing out how asinine a comment was is not namecalling nor condescending in anyway.....................but my apologies nonetheless.

Would you prefer I call you nastier names?? I'm guessing you would not. In any case, I still respect your opinion on a matter as long as it is logical and you are able to back it up with good enough claims. Saying that you like a judge simply because the libs don't like the candidate is not really much of an argument even if you were kidding.

Anyway, enough of this whole fighting stuff, I do not want to make this into a huge argument.

Again, my apologies for my vitriolic comments.

  • Apology accepted,let's move on!
