  • Harriet Miers Isn’t Mike Brown

They Are Using This Analogy As If It Holds Any Weight..

"It's typical Bush,’ said Tim Waddingham, vice president of the CSU Young Democrats and a columnist at the Collegian, referring to Miers' lack of judiciary experience. ‘He appointed Mike Brown to head FEMA and he didn't have any experience.’"

    -article

With all the smear attacks coming from the Presidents own conservative base, I understand why the libs are getting away with this. I predicted the second day after Miers was nominated that this analogy would pop up on the lib blogs and in certain articles. This analogy simply does not hold any weight.  Mike Brown wasn’t nominated to the Supreme Court. Mike Brown was never the President of the State Bar in Texas. Mike Brown is not one of the top lawyers in the country. This notion that all this President is doing is nominating and appointing his friends to high positions in the federal government is absurd. Have we forgotten about William Pryor? Have we forgotten about Janice Rogers Brown? Have we forgotten about Priscilla Owen? The truth is Bush’s track record on judges is pretty damn good. Those of you who continue to attack this woman on the basis that she is not qualified and that "we don't know enough yet", have you found anything from Miers to suggest she wasn’t a conservative? Have you found anything to suggest this woman didn’t hold the same philosophy as George W. Bush? No, you haven’t. Because everyday that goes by we find something to suggest the opposite. Every drudge headline, every Washington Post article has suggested this woman is a religious conservative from Texas who shares the same judicial philosophy and same moral values as George W. Bush. I just recently read a Drudge Flash that said Miers voted for Reagan! Your argument boils down to one thing: You do not trust this President.

"Miers and the Roads of Government"

"I have learned, through experience, to look below the surface when considering the reasons and planning behind President Bush’s actions. Despite the mindless braying of insults about Dubya’s intellect, the fact is that he is a very shrewd politician and planner. Liberals constantly, as we have all heard before, ‘misunderestimate’ him. Recent events show that an embarrassingly large number of Conservatives buy into the same error."

"And what about Miers? I have read comments from supposed Conservatives denouncing her as "unqualified", or some who grudgingly admit she is qualified, but claim there are "dozens, even hundreds" of better choices. Seriously, does anybody who makes such insulting and ill-considered comments expect them to be taken seriously? Does anyone who throws out such emotional tripe think this advances the discussion? What exactly are you expecting? Do you think you can call up the White House and force the President to pull his choice in favor of yours? That, people, is not going to happen. If Miers is shot down, Bush will send out another nomination, but it’s still going to be someone he chooses, and you should certainly know by now, Dubya is not a man who settles for being bullied. You choose not to trust him, that’s your loss. You chose to screw around with his work, that just hurts the country."

  • "Sloppy Ann, Just Sloppy..."

"COULTER'S LATEST, SAD AND WRONG: Nobody questions whether or not Ann Coulter is talented, funny, sharp, and exceedingly brilliant. She knows it herself. Ann's column has been steady reading for me since I first met her on a trip to New York in December of 2000. And there are few people I ever find my self in more agreement with on a regular basis than Ms. Coulter."

    "But not on Harriet Miers..."

"The short of it goes something like this: Bush picked someone I don't like. The law school she went to stinks. Anybody that thinks is differently than my brilliant blonde self is stupid. And here's some more insults to Ms. Miers just for added tastelessness. You can read the entire thing here."

"I understand Ann's pain. She has written as extensively as anyone on the disaster that Bush's dad left us with in Souter and Kennedy. But the truth is this President Bush is not his father's son and Ann would save herself a hernia or two if she remembered that."

Morrison Report Archives July 31st 2005:

    "Ann's Problem With Roberts"

  • Sanctioned Murder

WASHINGTON -- "New Chief Justice John Roberts stepped forward Wednesday as an aggressive defender of federal authority to block doctor-assisted suicide, as the Supreme Court clashed over an Oregon law that lets doctors help terminally ill patients end their lives."

"The Supreme Court eight years ago concluded that the dying have no constitutional right to doctor-assisted suicide. O'Connor provided a key fifth vote in that decision, which left room for state-by-state experimentation."

    -story

John Roberts oversaw his first case yesterday as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court. My first reaction to this was typical. Its my life, If I want to die then no one should be able to stop me. If I want a doctor to kill me then why should the government interfere? What if I doomed anyway? What if I have cancer? What if I cant get a date? The people of Oregon did vote for this law and since 1997, Oregon doctors have been writing lethal prescriptions.

But I do have a problem with this. And its simple. I don’t like it when the government kills. And I know you’ll say "Oh but Morrison you support the death penalty, you support the war on terrorism." Yes I do. But the difference is in those instances it vital that we kill. I don’t think the government, federal or states should assist in the suicide of Americans. It is immoral, and it damages the image of the medical community, let alone the image of this nation.

    "Assisted Suicide Is Losing Support"

  • "Harry Reid Has Just Been Hosed, And He Doesn't Even Know It."

"It's true. Little is known about the views of Harriet Miers. But what is known, through official and unofficial channels, paints a picture of a conservative Texas lawyer with rock-solid beliefs on life, strong religious convictions, and a modesty that should allay fears of a renegade Justice determined to remake society through the courts."

"As our picture of Miers comes into clearer focus, the Souter II narrative begins to strain credulity. It requires us to believe that the President who gave us Janice Rogers Brown, Michael McConnell, Bill Pryor, Priscilla Owen – and no RINO that I could name at the Circuit or District Court level, who fought the fight on Miguel Estrada, and who had originally orchestrated the masterful trade of Roberts-for-O'Connor, would suddenly punt at this critical moment. It also requires us to believe that Miers, who has worked with Bush for a decade, who is the White House staffer most intimitately involved with vetting nominees' judicial philosophies, and is one of the people Bush knows best, has been able to hide her true beliefs from her boss until – Ah, ha! – she donned the judge's robe."

    -Patrick Ruffini

"Bush hasnt betrayed my trust... hes done things I disagree with, but for the most part I understand why he did those things... he's not a dumb guy, and I have no reason to believe that he would make an unreasonable choice now."

  • Indicted Again?

They Will Do Whatever They Can To Destroy This Man

"The Texas prosecutor overseeing an investigation of former House majority leader Tom DeLay (R-Tex.) fired back yesterday at criticism by DeLay's lawyers that he brought a new indictment against the powerful legislator on Monday to fix a legal flaw in the first indictment of DeLay last week."

"Travis Country District Attorney Ronnie Earle said in a written statement released late yesterday that the new indictment charging DeLay with the criminal felonies of money laundering and conspiracy to commit money laundering was based on new information that "came to the attention of the District Attorney's Office" last weekend."

    -Washington Post

Ronnie Earl came back yesterday with a second indictment because the law in the first indictment didn’t even apply to Delay because it was written after the event. Its obvious what’s going on here. The crime they accuse Delay of wasn’t even a crime when Delay supposedly did it. Ronnie Earl has one goal here. As you all know, Tom Delay has stepped down. You see, under House Republican rules once Delay is indicted he has to step down. That is the goal. Ronnie Earl doesn’t care about the flaws in his indictment, all he wanted was to see Tom Delay step down as Majority leader. Everything Delay did was totally legal. Was it morally acceptable? Maybe. But Ronnie Earl is going out on a limb here to label the right wing of this country as "corrupt". Its completely ridiculous. In 2002 the Democratic Party and the Democratic National Committee did the exact same thing Ronnie Earl and the left wing media are accusing Delay of. Why does the media look the other way for the Democrats? Because they want a mug shot of Tom Delay so they can place it in the face of every Republican and claim the GOP is full corruption. Unfortunately, it looks as if that just might happen.

  • (KRT) - "As political activists rush to mine Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers' slender public record, a former campaign manager says she opposed abortion rights while running for Dallas City Council in 1989."

"She is on the extreme end of the anti-choice movement," said Lorlee Bartos, who managed Miers' first and only political campaign and said they discussed abortion once during the race.

"I think Harriet's belief was pretty strongly felt," Bartos said Monday. "I suspect she is of the same cloth as the president."

    -story

Many are wondering why I support this nominee. Its simple. Its not blind support for this administration. Its simply because it is too early to claim we been betrayed here. Im hearing such an outrage by those on the right. Its incredible. Dick Cheney had to basically beg Rush Limbaugh to trust him on this. But this President has come through in the past. I know you are fed up with immigration, I know you are fed up with the spending. But that doesn’t mean we should make premature accusations here. This nominee is a conservative. I guarantee it. This nominee will not legislate from the bench. This nominee will not change her philosophy when she reaches the court. This President does what he wants, and he doesn’t care what people think. He deafeats the left without them realizing it until its too late.  He doesn’t wish to fight with the dems, he is going to get the job done without a fight.

  • Have Faith In Your President

Now, We Need To Be Optimistic About This..

"Personally, as a conservative I am quite concerned about her. Was there no one better?"

    -Chet From New Jersey

Now I know you feel uneasy about this, anyone who supports this President and his policies would. But the truth is, it is still early, and we need to be optimistic about this. This kind of talk from the right is common. We have Rush Limbaugh now saying this nomination is a "sign of weakness", we have other people on the right who are pulling their hair out because of this nomination.

You need to relax and have faith in your President. Do you remember the concern with Bush announced Roberts to replace O’Conner? The right went into a frenzy, Ann Coulter wrote a column denouncing the pick. This is unnecessary. We can tell whether or not the judicial decisions this President makes are good ones from the reaction of the democrats. Once the dems started searching for some dirt on Roberts we realized the importance of getting him on the court. The dems will do the same to Miers. They will search for anything and everything. Do you remember when they tried to divide the right by saying Roberts was pro-gay? And when that failed they tried to divide the right by saying  he was anti-gay. Then they tried to say his adopted kids were too white! It was disgusting! They are going to do the same thing here. They are going to try to divide us. They will result in failure. We will not divide, we will unite. We will demand a fair hearing, we will demand this nominee be confirmed.

Harriet Miers is a conservative, Harriet Miers is a close friend of George W. Bush. I understand your concern. Once you see Harry Reid announce his support for a so called conservative nominee for the Supreme Court you start to wonder what the hell’s going on. But this President has fooled the democrats on more than one occasion. This President has fooled me, on more than one occasion. The President isn’t doing this because of his ratings, the President isn’t doing this because of Katrina, he’s doing it because for some reason, which we are sure to realize in the future, this woman belongs on the High Court. With these two openings, conservatism has a chance to finally gain some ground on the courts and attack the liberal philosophy. We will do just that.

  • Bush Picks Miers!

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - "President George W. Bush on Monday nominated a member of his inner circle, White House counsel Harriet Miers, for a Supreme Court vacancy, choosing a woman with plenty of legal experience but who is not a judge to replace the retiring Sandra Day O'Connor."

"Miers, 60, a longtime ally of Bush's going back to his days as Texas governor, would be the third woman ever to serve on the Supreme Court. The others are O'Connor and a current justice, Ruth Bader Ginsburg."

  • Tom Delay Bad? Air America Good?

    Hmm...

The level of hypocrisy from those on the left never ceases to surprise me. The liberal talk radio station Air America received a large amount of cash from the Gloria Wise Boys And Girls Club. The Problem: Gloria Wise Boys and Girls Club is an non profit organization funded by the government. Possibly hundreds of thousands of dollars were diverted from the Club to Air America, money that would, in essence, be spent on the kids who are supposed to be benefitting from this Club.

Now, this scandal isn’t new at all. But could you imagine the media response if Air America was a conservative radio station? Could you imagine the outcry? Could you imagine the headlines? The left ignores the corruption of Air America, just liked they ignored the corruption of Bill Clinton, just like they ignored the corruption of Dan Rather. This is how they play. This is what they do. They point the finger at Tom Delay for supposedly funding a couple of campaigns, but ignore the corruption of their own. Its hypocrisy at its best. If Delay was a democrat this would not be the media’s number one story. They would ignore it, they would ignore it and hope it went away, just like they’ve done in the past with their own. Im getting tired of the double standard here, I’m getting tired of the hypocrisy.
